Is the light UVB? If not, it needs to be - if so, nice.
Is the light positioned too close to the floor of the enclosure? If so, it's possible your tegu is burning the pads of his feet and/or any other part of his body that's making contact with the hot spot.
If that isn't the case, it could...
If you've only had him for around a week, chances are he's still being shy and won't eat much until he settles down and feels more comfortable with his new surroundings.
Make sure the basics are taken care of - meaning temps and humidity level and let him settle down.
I think the #1 concern...
From my experiences with older Colombians, yes they definitely calm down with age and size.
They're prone to be more skittish then other 'gus but as they continue to figure out "life", the things that once scared them no longer do, or seem to have much less impact on them.

The San Diego Zoo has a similar mix for their monitors, tegus and Komodo Dragons:
You mix approximately (recipes vary but it's always more turkey then eggs) 10 oz turkey with 2 whole eggs + shell. Add some water to help liquify the mix. Add normal supplements/calcium. Blend. Feed...

There is no scientific proof that I'm aware of that says feeding whole prey items is better then non-prey items with good supplementation.
Calcium is calcium.
Protein is protein.
The list goes on when it comes to nutrients.
Their bodies can only utilize, as well as absorb, so many...
Glad to hear your colombian huffs as much as he does. I have an 8 month old juvenile that has never huffed, and I've had some that will huff at the mere sight of you.
It's pretty comical when they do it, and it's part of what makes Colombians so cool, imo.
You might find this an...
You're doing all the right things with your Colombian so far.
If you aren't aware of their huffing already, it's a normal behavior for most of them.
You definitely want to pick him up regularly and pet him as much as possible - even if he huffs...because without close, human interaction - he...
