    If available to you, young tegus benefit greatly from eating insects. Locusts and dubia roaches are the bulkiest ones in terms of nutrients.

    I bought mine from quality reptiles in the netherlands. At 3 months old he was almost 3 feet long. That's why they say better buy from a breeder I think.

    A store near me has a year old tegu that's smaller than when I bought my tegu at 3 months old. The store owner says he eats like crazy but then describes a bearded dragon kind of eating pattern. Wich explains why he's so small. Just doesn't get enough nutrients. Probably the same in your case...

    Lazy or sick Tegu

    I've found that tegu's who have insufficient uvb lighting get lazy and sleep all the time. Had that exact problem with my guy. He's a lot more vibrant now. Also a bunch more natural behaviors have been shown since I upped his uv levels. So you might want to concider. I wish you best of luck...
