Newly moved tegu. Thoughts on behavior?

Hey tegutalk. I just moved my 2 year old boy in with me after months of commuting to the house of his previous owner to care for him. The 1st few days he was full of energy and where normally because of the season he was only active for a few hours a day he was out eagerly exploring everything...

    Beautiful blue boy *update*

Writing an update to this- I'm a bit nervous and watching him like a hawk but it's a happy update! My boy has finally been moved in with me! He has been roaming on and off all day and very active/curious and possibly excited by his new surroundings. As I write this he is snoozing under some...

Newb here. Dying for help. Rather urgent.

Most likely not barring a pool liner if you wanted to play it safe. Again they'd be the best people to ask! They look like they have everything you're looking for including casters on the bottom and being professionally built for disassembling/transport.

Newb here. Dying for help. Rather urgent.

I don't believe that is one where you would need to seal the bottom but it wouldn't hurt to ask them how it does with bioactive substrate! Also I edited my comment but another way I use 'seal' is when referring to wood; It needs to be coated in something waterproof before use like stain or...

Newb here. Dying for help. Rather urgent.

So by 'Seal' I mean putting a material in the cracks where the panels join to make it water tight. Even if you find a material like wood with a vinyl side you have to seal the pieces together so water doesn't get through the cracks. In this case a silicone sealant (like what you use to seal...

Newb here. Dying for help. Rather urgent.

Ah okay! So, the only current downside to my enclosure build that you would have issue with is the bottom is super heavy. It's basically a bottom 'tray' that's sealed/water tight for the substrate while the top half (the one we had to rebuild to fit through my apartment door lol) is 3 sides of...

Newb here. Dying for help. Rather urgent.

Have you checked out https://lifetimehabitats.com/ yet? I've been eyeballing them for future reference and they offer payment plans. They have a specific build meant for tegus that looks pretty sturdy imo and are designed to be disassembled/reassembled. I currently have been struggling with the...

    How important are veggies?

Knowing someone else makes weird raw meatballs with different veggies makes me happy. I was doing that before I could get reptilinks but I'm looking at adding them back in for some more variety. An ice cube tray is an ingenious way to portion it it out and I wish I'd thought of that sooner haha.

    How important are veggies?

Seconding what Tiigu said. I 'smuggle' my veggies into ground turkey along with organ meat for my lil dude, and I've found he really goes for pumpkin puree just by itself. I also use the mega fruit and veggies blend reptilinks with quail eggs since those have veggies in them too. I give him...

    Fitting giant cages through doors?

I'm actually facing this exact conundrum moving my adopted boy into my apartment. His enclosure is built so that the top half (frame holding the acrylic panes/doors) lifts up from the bottom half (tray that is sealed and contains all the substrate). However the top half is too wide for my door...

    Tegu Enrichment Ideas

Outside of his usual enjoyment just burrowing in blankets I take a cardboard paper towel tube and cut a round hole or 2 in it then put a treat inside like a reptilink or piece of fruit. My boy loves to chomp and shake them to get the treat out. They're kind of one use of course

Constipated tegu - are there OTC treatments?

I'm so happy to hear that she got help! The only other thing I noticed is that for her size a basking temp anywhere between 115 and 125 is optimal, so you don't have to fuss too much at keeping her basking temp at exactly 115. Heat and uvb is integral to digestion so extra uvb coverage couldn't...

Constipated tegu - are there OTC treatments?

Hey Sean, have you found anything new with your girl when you took her to the regular vet?

    Lizard safe floor cleaners?

Since not many species are allowed to free roam like tegus I haven't had much luck finding definitive answers or products on Google specifically designated as 'safe' for reptiles. Plenty of talk about enclosure cleaners but nothing about floor cleaners. A lot of the advertised 'pet friendly'...

Poor little thing. I hope they can find some answers and help her tomorrow, best of luck!
