Medications - Wake Up Call

Recently got prescribed some meds for my black and white, who is only out during the morning for a couple hours each day. The prescription is for 12 hr dosages, so twice a day. Problem is: he isn't awake for his second dosage.

What would be the best way to successfully wake him up for his medication, without brushing over the top of the substrate, and freak him out thinking there is a predator?

For how long does he have to take these meds? If its just for a week or a shorter period of time, you could remove the substrate and use newspapers instead. This way you dont have to dig him up to give him his meds. I would also ask if you can somehow change the dosage to only once a day, that way you can just give it to him while hes awake.
