    Help with getting a tegu

Ur dad know u have a lot more? And reptiles in generally arent really companion animals. They'll have their sweet moments, but they generally do what they want and that may or may not involve you.

    Juvenile Tegu Tail Necrosis?

Just consulting a vet only costs me $20. If I wanted a fecal and x-ray done, it cost anywhere from $70-90. Idk anyone who would charge as mich as the figures you post. Take her to a vet to get professional opinion Edit - it looks necrotic to me. Id take her to a vet so that they can recommend...

    Help with getting a tegu

We cant really change your father's position on the matter. Perhaps ask him why he's so opposed to the idea. Is it because he thinks its too big of a responsibility? Let him do the talking and say nothing, just listen. And if u do say something, always try to make it a question. Learn and try to...

    Kinks in the tail?

Vet was surprised to see me because it was only weeks since our last visit, so she kindly did a consultation for free. She found nothing wrong other than that my tegu wouldnt sit still lol She said the kink may be a genetic birth defect. Various reasons why it couldve occured: whena tail is...

    Tegu Bites?

Tegus have great temperament. You just need to learn how to read their mood. If you're dad is worried about losing fingers, perhaps get a younger tegu? They'll tame down nicely in time and bites will be an annoyance instead of an emergency (at least until they've grow up).

    Kinks in the tail?

Hey walter, Thanks for replying. I was wondering the same thing. Im a bit optimistic because three weeks ago, I had a fecal done (routine check-up I do for all my new arrivals) and it came back negative and was told that, "...she looked just as healthy as any newborn should..." as far as she...

I can either rescue a beardie or get a tegu. What to do?

Im going to play devils advocate and advise you to hold off on the tegu for now. They are high maintenance animals and you're only going to compound your stress by adding in another animal. By all means, go ahead and get a tegu if you really have your heart set on it. They are wonderful animals...

    Question about meat source....

I say, why not? I would worry about preservatives and additional sodium. Most companies in the meat industry may use both to prevent spoilage.

    Tegu Bites?

Yes, adult tegus have very powerful jaws and they are nasty animals in the wild. I read somewhere that they can chomp down with 1000N of force--that's about as strong a pitbull's bite. They are def rewarding pets, but they are very strong animals and mistakes can be costly.l

    Kinks in the tail?

Noticed a kink near the tip of my tegu's tail. I haven't noticed it before and I was alarmed by the discovery this morning. Currently, i have her housed in a 40G breeder (she's just over a foot long). Basking and ambient temperatures are 110 and 77 F respectively; humidity is usually around...
